ABWA National was originally founded in 1949 by Hilary A. Bufton, Jr., Kansas City, Missouri. “It was my feeling all women were seeking and deserved equal business opportunities,” he later wrote. “They had gained tremendous business knowledge during World War II, through necessity, and I felt that a new organization for all business women was needed.” On Sept. 22, 1949, Bufton and three Kansas City businesswomen incorporated the American Business Women’s Association. 

Our Gwinnett Charter Chapter has been the recipient of the Star Award for 24 consecutive years!  This is the highest award an ABWA chapter can earn and represents the fulfillment of best practices by an ABWA group.
